Rather than mourn the loss of The King of Pop on what would be his 54th birthday, Michael Jackson fans gathered at his childhood home in Gary, Indiana to celebrate a life lost too soon.
Daughter Paris tweeted a picture Wednesday evening of the immense crowd of fans who showed up to the vigil with an outpouring of gifts, dancing and showing their love for the late performer into the night.
Accompanying the photo above, Paris wrote in awe, "you guys are amazing!!!"
That night, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson handed out "Team Gary" T-shirts to Prince Michael, Blanket and their sister, who graciously accepted the offering before signing autographs and memorabilia, reports ABC News.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson also made an appearance, posing with fans and a Michael Jackson impersonator along the way.
Tonight begins a multi-night celebration planned by the Jackson family in Gary, which includes a Friday dinner hosted by the Mayor honoring Katherine Jackson and a musical salute performed by the local high school team on Saturday.
