Actress Kathy Bates has revealed that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and opted to undergo a double mastectomy.

The former Harry's Law star revealed to People magazine her decision to have the surgery came "after much consideration." She added: "Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception."

It is the second time the 64-year-old Academy Award-winner has battled the disease after she survived ovarian cancer nine years ago.
"My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time," she
told the magazine. "I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing
what I love to do."

Bates is expected to attend the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on September 23 -- where she is nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Drama for portraying curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer Harriet Korn on Harry's Law, as well as for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for Two and a Half Men.
