As Prince William and Kate Middleton continued a foreign trip with a tour of the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, lawyers were working on their behalf in France to pursue criminal charges against a tabloid that published photos of Kate sunbathing topless.
In the criminal complaint filed in a French court outside Paris on Monday, lawyers for the royal couple sought a ban on the French tabloid Closer from republishing or reselling the topless photos, which they said were snapped during a "highly intimate moment" while William and Kate were on a private vacation to France.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have cited the breach of French privacy laws in seeking criminal charges against the tabloid, as well as the photographer who took the photos. The court said it will decide Tuesday whether to order an injunction halting further publication of the photos.

The Palace reacted to publication of the photos on Friday, saying in a statement the royal family was "hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner."
