Before Robin Roberts headed into surgery this morning to undergo a bone marrow transplant, she posted a video message saying she continues to "feel the love" from fans and supporters as she heads into the procedure.

In her blog post that also aired on Thursday's Good Morning America, Roberts, 51, emphasized the importance of positive thinking during treatment. "This journey is as much about the mind as it is the body," she said. "Your thoughts. Thoughts are so powerful. You've got to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel."

The GMA co-host -- who completed eight days of intense chemotherapy treatment in preparation for getting the bone marrow transplant from her sister Sally -- ended her message by expressing heartfelt appreciation to her fans. "And let me just say this lastly, I feel the love and I thank you for it. Thank you."

Roberts began a medical leave of absence from GMA on August 30 to prepare for the transplant, which is intended to fend off the rare blood disorder Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) that she contracted after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
