Jane Lynch on Her 'Evil' Minion Becky on 'Glee'
October 10, 2012
We caught up with Glee star Jane Lynch at an event recognizing the portrayal of disabled characters in the media and she praised her own show for casting Lauren Potter as her "evil" subordinate Becky Jackson, who has Down syndrome.
"I'm really thrilled to be here for Lauren Potter, who plays my evil lieutenant, almost as evil as Sue Sylvester on Glee. And I just think it's a really great thing to honor the diversity we have on our show, and also the diversity in Hollywood," Lynch told ET while attending the Media Access Awards Wednesday in Hollywood.

For her part, Potter said she was also excited to have fans and her family be on hand to see Glee honored for its commitment to keeping her recurring character on the show to highlight her disability.
The event's host Jimmy Kimmel also spoke about the importance of the awards ceremony to celebrate diversity. "The mainstream media can overlook performers who are disabled and it's nice that there's a show specifically for everyone who is," he said.
Glee Newcomers Tease Their New Characters
Watch the video to also hear Sons of Anarchy star and amputee Kurt Yaeger talk about disabilities being portrayed on-screen, as well as producer Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice) speak about how Hollywood is improving in this area.
