Scooter explained the Pencils of Promise
story and philosophy, saying, "My brother built this organization with the idea that students and young people can make a difference, and they didn't need to have a lot of money. I remember he quit his high-paying job and he said, 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to start with $25.' And he built the first 10 schools with donations of $100 or less to prove that it could work."
