Hosted by Today show anchor Matt Lauer, the 60-minute event was broadcast from 30 Rock in New York City and featured uplifting musical performances by Christina Aguilera, Aerosmith, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band and Billy Joel.
Late Night host Jimmy Fallon lent some comic relief to the somber occasion when he assumed the lead singer role to The Drifters' classic Under the Boardwalk with Billy Joel, Steven Tyler and Bruce Springsteen playing back-up.
