Robin Roberts Reveals Hospital Stay for Virus

Robin Roberts has provided another update on her progress following a bone marrow transplant in September and reveals that she spent last week in the hospital after contracting a virus.

In a message on the Good Morning America Facebook page, Roberts, 51, said she was released from the hospital on Friday. "A latent virus, many of us have, was not responding to medication and was pulling down my numbers," she explained about her hospital stay. "Our immune systems usually take care of a virus like this...but mine is only 59 days old."

The GMA co-host said that while she felt fine during her treatment, the hospital visit "took an emotional toll" on her. "The wonderful doctors, nurses and support staff lifted my spirits... it was comforting seeing them again. They assured me the majority of BMT patients have to be re-admitted to the hospital for various reasons."

She said she now considers her brief hospital stay a "tune up" and feels "back on the road to recovery" with the virus under control.

Roberts said that her sister Sally-Ann, -- who was the donor for her bone marrow transplant -- flew to NYC to be with her while she was in the hospital. She also conducted an interview with Robin for the local New Orleans TV station she works for and a portion of the interview is scheduled to air on Tuesday's GMA.

Roberts underwent the transplant on September 20 in an attempt to combat Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder that she contracted after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
