The stars were out in Hollywood Tuesday night for the premiere of the film Sushi Girl, a deliciously violent ensemble crime-thriller featuring Star Wars icon Mark Hamill and Candyman villain Tony Todd.
In a major departure from his Luke Skywalker persona, Hamill portrays an eccentric, homicidal criminal with a thirst for torture, and the star gushed about the villainous nature of the role, telling ET, "Certainly darker characters and villains are a lot of fun to play, especially when you're known for something 180 degrees removed from that."
He also spoke highly of his co-stars, praising actress Cortney Palm in particular for her performance as the nude 'sushi girl' that the cast dines from throughout the film. He told ET, "I have to give it to Cortney Palm. The discipline that she employed to stay that still on a table with all of us morons surrounding her, if I had a hat, it'd be off to her."
"I'll let you in on a little movie magic," Palm told ET when asked how she managed to balance the sushi, "it wasn't real all the time…but when the cast had to eat it off of [me], they replaced it with real ones. And it was nice and soft." Sushi: delicious and comfortable. Who knew?
Actor Noah Hathaway, who played both the long-haired, stallion-riding youth Atreyu in the classic '80s fantasy film The NeverEnding Story and the robot-dog loving Boxey in the original '70s Battlestar Galactica series, told ET how he managed to land a part in the film after a nearly two-decade-long hiatus from acting.
"I got a weird email in the middle of the night and it was this crazy, eclectic script," he told ET, "and I hadn't worked for 20 years and they told me who was in it…it's just a good, old-fashioned, violent gangster flick that everybody could have a good time at."
Sushi Girl, out this week on Video On Demand, follows a group of gangsters who reunite for dinner -- fresh sushi atop a naked girl -- several years after a diamond heist gone wrong. Determined to find out where the missing diamonds are, they torture one of the members who last had the jewels in his possession. Directed by Kern Saxton, the film also stars James Duval and features cameos by Danny Trejo, Sonny Chiba, Michael Biehn and Jeff Fahey.
