Ryan Gosling may look good in his Gangster Squad suit, but he wasn't so much a fan of the costume.

"The wool was quite itchy, so I had a rash," Gosling, 32, admitted during a Beverly Hills press event for the movie (via People.com). "I channeled that irritation into my hatred for the gangsters," he quipped.

Josh Brolin, Gosling's Gangster co-star, agreed about the wool suits, also calling them "itchy and tight."

Gangster Squad, out Jan. 11, is about the LAPD's fight to keep East Coast mafia types out of Los Angeles in the '40s and '50s. Gosling plays Sgt. Jerry Wooters and in preparing for the role met with Wooters' real-life family. "His kids came to the set and told me a lot of stories and a lot of great details. Like, when he would ash his cigarette, he would ash into the cuff of his pants," the actor shared. "Then at the end of the day, he would dump out his cuffs, dump out all the ashes."
