R&B star Frank Ocean faces a marijuana possession charge after being pulled over by police on New Year's Eve.

The 25-year-old Grammy-nominated singer was stopped in California's Eastern Sierra Nevada about 4:30 p.m. on December 31 after deputies clocked him speeding at 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, the Associated Press reports.

A spokeswoman for the Mono County Sheriff's Department said a strong odor of marijuana came from the vehicle as a deputy approached. A small bag of marijuana was found on Ocean -- whose legal name is Christopher Breaux -- and he was cited for marijuana possession and released.

The California Highway Patrol said an officer also gave Ocean a verbal warning about his speed and cited Ocean for driving with a suspended license and having tinted front windows. The singer's license was confiscated and a passenger who was traveling with him was allowed to drive the vehicle away, the CHP said.
