Lindsey Vonn Opens Up About Injury Setback

Olympic gold-medal skier Lindsey Vonn is addressing the crash Tuesday on a course in Austria that has put her out of competition for the rest of this season.

"First off I want to say thank you to the amazing medical staff that cared for me," Vonn said in a statement released Wednesday by the U.S. Ski Team about being treated for her fall during the opening day of the FIS Alpine World Championships in Schladming, Austria.

But the 28-year-old skiing star -- who was evaluated and released from a local hospital after suffering torn ligaments in her right knee -- is already making plans to return to the USA for surgery and remains optimistic about her future Olympic chances.

"I am also grateful to my fans for the outpouring of support, which has really helped me stay positive," Vonn said. "I can assure you that I will work as hard as humanly possible to be ready to represent my country next year in Sochi (2014 Winter Olympics)."
