Valerie: My Husband Knew of My Cancer Before Me
In her first TV interview since announcing she has terminal brain cancer, Valerie Harper opens up to The Doctors about how she's dealing with her illness and reveals that her husband knew about her cancer before she did.
In an interview set to air on Monday's show, Harper explains that she learned of her terminal diagnosis in January when doctors discovered she suffered from a rare and incurable form of brain cancer.
But her husband, Tony Cacciotti, revealed during his appearance on The Doctors that he initially hid the diagnosis from his wife after her doctors informed him first. When asked about her diagnosis, Harper shared, "I didn't get it because my husband hid it. Poor baby; he was so bereft. [The doctors] said there is nothing we can do for her and [she has] three to six months; maybe."
Also appearing on the show -- airing Monday, March 11 (check your local listings) -- are Harper's cast mates from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cloris Leachman and Ed Asner, as well as a team of physicians treating her illness.
