The court papers estimate the singer's total liabilities at $10.7 million -- mostly in tax claims by the Internal Revenue Service and the state of California -- compared to just $25,500 in total assets.

Warwick's publicist, Kevin Sasaki, said in a statement that the bankruptcy filing was necessary after the singer had "repeatedly attempted to offer re-payment plans and proposals" to tax authorities at the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board. "These plans were not accepted, resulting in escalating interest and penalties," Sasaki said.
