John Mayer Talks Split: Coupling Is Tricky

John Mayer is fessing up to his breakup from Katy Perry, and revealing to Ellen DeGeneres what exactly went wrong ...sorta.

After news broke that Mayer, 35, had split from the pop star, he announced that he would be touring again for the first time in three years. "I'm on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing," he confessed on the daytime talk show.

"Listen, it was a very private relationship going in. It was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship, still," Mayer said when the host began to pry a bit about his breakup from Perry, 28. "I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other. I've been much happier since then."

DeGeneres added, "It is hard and you're both in the business and you're both working all the time. I just want you to be happy. That's all."

The singer-songwriter chimed back, "I want everyone to be happy."
