University of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware has been released from the hospital -- just two days after suffering a horrific leg injury shown on live TV during his team's NCAA tournament victory over Duke.

The 20-year-old Ware left an Indianapolis hospital on Tuesday and was headed back to the college campus in Kentucky. He was released after undergoing surgery to repair compound fractures of the tibia in his right leg and is expected to be out for at least a year. "Back to my brothers I go," Ware tweeted as he prepared to leave the hospital.

The Louisville guard was attempting to block a three-point attempt from Duke's Tyler Thornton during Sunday's game when his leg buckled beneath him. Ware fell to the floor, breaking his right leg in a graphic injury that left several inches of bone protruding.

Several commentators called the injury the worst they'd ever seen on the basketball court and CBS quickly banned further replays of the gruesome fracture.
