During a visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on Friday, the 19-year-old pop star left a message in the museum's guestbook, writing, "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

Anne Frank died of typhus in a concentration camp in March 1945 when she was 15. The house is dedicated to the memory of Frank and her family who hid from Nazi persecution for two years before being found and arrested.

According to The Anne Frank House Facebook page, Bieber made the visit with his friends and guards. The pop star is in the middle of a European tour.

Below is a sample of the Facebook reactions that have been made since the post went live.

"Way to turn an inspiring moment into something about yourself."

"Beyond disappointing that Bieber totally missed the point. Based on Anne's writing, she was far too mature to have chosen Bieber as a role model or someone to otherwise idolize."

"Does anyone else see the irony of someone so famous being publicly scrutinized outside a house where an entire family hid from hatred for years? The kid's a dope, but reading comments like 'I hope he dies in a holocaust' are quite disturbing."
