Moretz: 'Maybe [Frank] Would've Been A Belieber'

After weathering the storm of attention surrounding his comment that he hoped Holocaust victim Anne Frank "would have been a Belieber," it seems the tides have yet to recede for Justin Bieber regarding the issue. On the red carpet of the MTV Movie Awards, 16-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz gracefully weighed in on whether she thought Bieber's comment was appropriate or not.

"I don't know. I very much respect Anne Frank and what she went through. [It] is a very serious situation and you know to make a joke of it sometimes is kind of inappropriate," Moretz said. "But at the same time you can kind of think of the angle, well you know 'you’ve got to bring light into those dark situations.'"

The Carrie actress was a presenter at the 2013 MTV movie awards. Laughingly, she added to her statement,

"I don’t know, a lot of people are Beliebers…maybe she would have been a Belieber."

Belieber or not, the argument made by many via social media is that Bieber’s comment was inappropriate. While on the European leg of his tour, Bieber stopped by for a tour of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on April 12 and left a message in the museum’s guestbook before leaving, writing:

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber."

The museum later posted the message to Facebook, spurring the onslaught of commentary from followers of the Never Say Never singer and non-fans alike.
