Is J.Lo Planning A Movie About the Boston Bombing?

By

In the aftermath of the Boston bombings, Jennifer Lopez, who sat down with ET to talk about her role as a producer for the new TV show, The Fosters, also talked about a potential movie about the tragedy in Massachusetts.

"They're delicate subjects because there is so much emotion that surrounds them. It has to be done in the right way, just like anything else. At the end of the day it's such a tragic thing and so unthinkable," Lopez said. "You would think it would make for a great movie, but at the end of the day it has to be handled in a certain way to be great."

When asked by ET's Rob Marciano what the right time would be for a movie like this to be made considering the grave subject matter, Lopez said:

"When I did the movie Selena, we did it two years after she passed away. A year after [she passed away] I was being cast for the movie. And it was such a tragedy for her family and for the music community. I don't know. It's something you have to just feel out. We'll wait and see."

So while we “wait and see” if a movie is in the future, Lopez is currently “excited” about her new TV show. To sum it up, Lopez’s ABC Family series The Fosters is about a multiethnic family comprised of biological and foster kids being raised by two moms. Lopez said she was attracted to the script because the family in the series “is not the norm.”

"Although it [the script] was about a non-traditional family and had some newer themes, it had some really basic themes as well about family and love and what's really important. And life can be complicated and messy sometimes and not simple. It gives a really good depiction of family in this day and age."

The premise of a show about a gay couple raising children has not been without drama. The show has already been met with controversy by the anti-gay group, One Million Moms, which posted protests on its website back in October saying: "None of this material is acceptable content for a family show... Let's stop this dead in it its tracks."

When asked whether Lopez expects the show to continue to stir controversy, Lopez says it might, "but that's ok." Lopez said the show is "an homage" to her late aunt who was gay.

"I thought of her often when I was thinking of taking on this project and the prejudices that she faced... She was always there for us. She was a great person. She didn't have her own family and I often wonder if she wanted it," Lopez says while fighting back tears.

The Fosters stars Teri Polo of Meet the Parents fame, Cierra Ramirez from the recently cancelled Secret Life of the American Teenager and Wizards of Waverly Place's Jake T. Austin, to name a few. When asked if Lopez will make an appearance on the show, the Wedding Planner actress replied, "only if it is something that really makes sense."

"Sometimes you think you have an EP who's a celebrity, and you think 'Oh, throw them on the show and people will watch,' but that's not necessarily true. I think the show is going to have to stand on its own.”
