In her first post-arrest sit-down interview, Reese Witherspoon told Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos on Thursday that the hardest part about her and husband Jim Toth's arrest was having to tell her kids.

The night of her husband's DUI and her arrest for disorderly conduct, Witherspoon, 37, allegedly asked the cop if he knew who she was. "I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked."

The actress says she's "embarrassed" by the whole incident and has no idea what she was saying that night. "I told him I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant. I said all kinds of crazy things."

"We know better," she said. "We are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right."

As for her actions toward the Atlanta, Georgia officer, the Mud actress apologized for being "disrespectful," adding that she has cops in her family and that from now on, "I will always listen to a police officer. I learned that for sure."

Witherspoon assured GMA viewers that something like this will "never happen again."
