After a writer from the British publication Daily Mail's staff accused Alec Baldwin's wife, Hilaria, of posting to her Twitter during the funeral service for James Gandolfini, the actor responded with an expletive-filled Twitter rant.

"My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit writes this f***ing trash," the 51-year-old actor wrote in a series of tweets captured by a screenshot of his page, which was deactivated shortly after the tirade.

He continued with a series of explicit tweets:

"If [sic] put my foot up your f***ing ass...but I'm sure you'd dig it too much.

"I'm gonna find you...you toxic little queen, and I'm gonna f***...you...up.

"I don't have a publicist anymore. I fired them.

"How much of this s*** are people supposed to take? With these f***ing blatant lies EVERY DAY.

"My wife DID NOT use her phone, in any capacity, at our friends funeral. Now, f*** this twitter + good luck to all you who know the truth."

Hilaria, who is pregnant with the couple's first child, also gave her take on the situation and backed her husband lashing out at the writer.

"I don't know what hurts more: people randomly and maliciously writing lies about you, or the people who actually believe them," she tweeted.

"My husband fights for me fiercely. It hurts to be misunderstood and it hurts to see your loved one in pain-even more so when she is pregnant."

"I hope that this reporter knows how much pain and drama he has caused from his poor journalism. Lying and bullying are shameful."

As for her reported tweeting during Gandolfini's funeral, Hilaria alluded to a feature of Twitter that may have caused some confusion.

"Here is some info... When someone tweets something at a certain time, and you retweet it later, it posts the TIME the first person tweeted."

UPDATE: Baldwin's rep released the following statement to ET regarding the actor's tweets:

"It's disgraceful that a reporter would manufacture and publish a story and not call for comment or explanation -- especially when it's intended to take away attention from honoring the memory of a beloved figure like James Gandolfini.

There are multiple witnesses to the fact that Hilaria left her phone in the car and wouldn't, couldn't and didn't tweet during the service. "

UPDATE: After Baldwin's rant was deemed "homophobic," he reached out to GLAAD and jointly released the following statement:

"My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone's sexual orientation. My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend's funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.

I have worked, periodically, with numerous marriage equality organizations, especially over the past couple of years, to achieve the very rights that gay couples are earning by recent court decisions. I would not advocate violence against someone for being gay and I hope that my friends at GLAAD and the gay community understand that my attack on Mr. Stark in no way was the result of homophobia. Many Thanks, Alec Baldwin."
