Morgan Freeman Honors Mandela on His Birthday
July 18 marks not only Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday but International Mandela Day. In honor of the revolutionary, Morgan Freeman is encouraging people all over the world to pay tribute to Mandela.
"Nelson Mandela spent 67 years fighting for social justice," said Freeman. "Now, every year on his birthday we ask everyone to pledge 67 minutes of their time to do something they think of as a contribution to someone else."
Freeman goes on to list reading to your grandmother, bringing groceries to a neighbor and cleaning up your local playground as notable ways to make a change for the better in the lives of those around you.
"Join us to honor this great man," urged Freeman.
Mandela spent his birthday in a hospital, according to BBC News. The former South African president has been battling a recurring lung infection since June 8.
