It's been nearly 35 years since Samantha Geimer's rape case against Roman Polanski made headlines, and now she's come out with a book titled The Girl that features a cover photo the Oscar-winning director took of her prior to the assault.

The pic was taken on Feb. 20, 1977, which was less than three weeks prior to when Polanski drugged and raped Geimer, known by her maiden name Samantha Gailey, at Jack Nicholson's home when she was 13 years old, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The incident occurred during a modeling shoot where Polanski gave her a mixture of alcohol and Quaaludes.

Polanski, now age 79, fled to France on Feb. 1, 1978, hours before his final sentencing for charges of having "Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a minor." He has never returned to the United States.

According to the book's publisher Atria, Geimer's account "will give readers insight into many dimensions of the story that have never been previously revealed."

Geimer said of the book upon announcing it in 2012 (via THR), "I am more than a 'Sex Victim Girl' [and] I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose -- to share a tale that will reclaim my identity."

The Girl goes on sale Sept. 17, 2013.
