Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived Wednesday for the first major event in the life of their three-month-old son, Prince George, who was christened during a ceremony in London.

Prince George arrived to the ceremony in his father's arms wearing a replica of an intricate lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter that was first used in 1841. Kate wore a cream-colored Alexander McQueen ruffled dress and matching hat with her hair brushed to the side.

The baptism, performed by The Archbishop of Canterbury, was held at the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace. In keeping with royal tradition, the christening was conducted with water from the River Jordan -- where Christians believe Jesus Christ was baptized.

Also attending the ceremony was Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, along with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Prince Harry and other royals. Kate's parents Michael and Carole Middleton, her sister Pippa and her brother James were also on the guest list. Official photographs of the event are to be released to the public on Thursday.
