Family Ties star Meredith Baxter, 66, married her longtime partner Nancy Locke on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, People reports.

The pair has been dating for seven years.

"Now I understand why marriage caught on!" she tells People.

According to the magazine, Baxter's five children attended the ceremony, and the couple exchanged handwritten vows.

Baxter came out as a lesbian in 2009.
