Robin Roberts is hosting an upcoming ABC News and People magazine two-hour special titled The Year, chronicling all the big stories of 2013, and she gave ET a preview of what we can expect when Rob Marciano caught up with her in New York!

So what does the seasoned news veteran think is the biggest story of the year?

Though she couldn't name just one, she did tell us the huge stories that came to her at the top of her head.

"I think of Trayvon Martin, I think of the beginning of the year, the George Zimmerman trial and the end result, and how the nation reacted," she said. " ... And then you go from that to the Obamacare rollout that didn't go as well as the administration would have liked, to the Kid President -- this kid who's walking around in this suit, who wants to be president of the United States. It's so adorable."

Of course, she couldn't forget the Boston Marathon bombing.

"The Boston Marathon really stands out to me for two reasons -- yes, what happened at the finish line and the tragedy there, but ... I'm glad that we're really gonna take time to reflect on the everyday hero, those people who just refuse to stay on the sidelines."

But Roberts herself has also become part of the news thanks to her bravely being so open about her battle with cancer, and she reflected on being named one of Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People" of the year.

"When you're sitting across Barbara Walters, and she anoints you -- because she's the one who decides the list -- I was just thrilled," she smiled. "She made me cry just a little bit -- you know, it's not a Barbara Walters interview unless you shed a tear or two."

Check out the video for an update on Roberts' health as well as on her ABC colleague Amy Robach, who recently announced her own battle with breast cancer.
