Clay Aiken was the runner-up on American Idol in 2003, but can he win a seat in Congress next election? He plans to try.

Aiken, 35, announced on his website on Wednesday, Feb. 5, that he will run for Congress in North Carolina to take 2nd Congressional District Republican Renee Ellmers' seat. "I'm running for Congress for the same reason I chose to become a special education teacher years ago -- to help people in need and to give them a voice. Will you join me?" he asks.
