David Cassidy to Remain in Rehab

David Cassidy, who returned to rehab after getting arrested for DUI in January, will be remaining in rehab after a judge's sentence, The Associated Press reports.

Cassidy's attorney Steven Graff Levine told the AP that the 1970s heartthrob plans to remain in rehab for longer than his three-month sentence requires, as he is committed to his sobriety. Cassidy was also sentenced to five years of probation in the drunken driving case. The incident marked the third time since 2010 that the 63-year-old former teen idol had been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

"This has been a very difficult time for me battling this deadly disease, like millions of others in our country," he tells ET. "I will remain in treatment for as long as necessary and I am getting the best care I can possibly get anywhere. I am working as hard as any human being to live a sober life. I am truly grateful to all of my friends and fans who have sent me thousands of letters and messages in support."

Cassidy's manager and publicist Jo-Ann Geffen told ET at the time that lawsuits concerning The Partridge Family profits led to a relapse.

"David just completed a stint in rehab and was doing very well in sobriety. He was in Los Angeles to attend depositions by Sony Pictures Television, respondents in a lawsuit filed by Cassidy in 2011 over what he claims are monies long due him from Partridge Family merchandise, home video, etc. After attending his and his manager's depositions, it appears as if the pressure led to a brief relapse. He was on his way to the airport to return to his home in Florida and to transitional rehabilitation. He plans now to return to rehab in an undisclosed facility," Geffen said.
