Man Guilty of Homicide in Death of Usher's Stepson
February 21, 2014
The man who was driving the personal watercraft that struck Usher Raymond's stepson, who later died from injuries sustained in the 2012 accident, has been found guilty of homicide by vessel.
Jeffrey Simon Hubbard, 40, was also found guilty Thursday in Hall County, Georgia of serious injury by vessel, reckless operation, unlawful operation of personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Hubbard -- a family friend -- struck the inner tube being pulled by a pontoon boat that carried 11-year-old Kile Glover, the son of Usher's ex Tameka Foster and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover, and another 15-year-old girl. The R&B singer had said he had raised Kile like his own son since the age of 4.
The girl suffered a broken arm and head laceration in the accident, while Kile was pulled unconscious from the water with serious head injuries. He died in the hospital about two weeks after the crash when life support was removed.
Hubbard was arrested March 1, 2013, after being indicted by a grand jury. Defense lawyers argued that Hubbard had tried to avoid the children and that what happened was a tragic accident. He faces a sentencing hearing on March 5.
