Gladiators rejoiced upon Scandal's return to ABC on Thursday night, and ET's Rocsi Diaz caught up with Olivia Pope herself (Kerry Washington) to see how she feels about the show coming back.

"It's very much worth the wait I promise you," gushed a very pregnant Washington at the 2014 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon. The 37-year-old actress was good about keeping a tight lid on what fans can expect from this season.

What did you think of Scandal's return to TV?

While Scandal always has people talking, the main focus of the luncheon was 12 Years a Slave's breakout star Lupita Nyong'o. "Her performance was fearless," said Regina King.

"She's amazing because she demonstrates what we're all capable of," added Alfre Woodard.

"She's going to win an Oscar," predicted Spike Lee. "That's for sure."

The Essence annual luncheon celebrates black women in Hollywood who are making tremendous strides both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes. This year, the event honored Nyong'o (Best Breakthrough Performance), director/writer Ava Duvernay (Visionary Award) and Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs (Trailblazer Award).

Presenters included Sidney Poitier, Oprah Winfrey, Kerry Washington, Spike Lee and Alfre Woodard.
