Jessica Alba Salutes Military Moms With Ultimate Baby Shower
July 03, 2014
Jessica Alba is showing her American pride by giving expecting military moms the ultimate baby shower. Jessica invited ET Special Correspondent Jay Williams to the big charity event in San Diego where she opened up about her own experience growing up in a military family and the health issues she faced as a little girl.
As the daughter of a father in the US Air Force, Alba moved from city to city while growing up, living in California, Mississippi, and Texas before settling back in California when she was nine years-old. But her childhood was also plagued with various health issues including chronic asthma and allergies, kidney surgery and both tonsil and appendix removal.
"It was tough on the family," Alba tells Jay. "My mom had to spend a lot of nights in a cot next to my bed in the hospital."
Her father was actively serving during this time, but she adds, "I'm appreciative of the medical services that my parents had access to."
Now Jessica is giving back with "Operation Shower," a baby shower for the military wives whose husbands are serving our country and have to miss out on this special time. The mother-of-two says she joined the cause to help these kids avoid the childhood sicknesses she dealt with.
"I think as a mother we all can relate to wanting to provide the safest and healthiest environment for our kids," she says.
Alba provided families with her own line of natural baby products from The Honest Company, the eco-friendly company of which she is also co-founder.
