NCIS star Pauley Perrette was hospitalized last week after a severe allergic reaction to a chemical used in the hair dye for her signature jet-black hair, and ET has the shocking photos showing the star's face looking painfully swollen.

"My right eye was almost swollen shut and the other half of my face had gotten twice the size of my head," Pauley told ET's Nancy O'Dell over the phone. "If I do this wrong again, I could die."

Pauley, who is a natural blonde, revealed to Nancy that she's had minor discomfort from her hair dye for the past year or so, but nothing too alarming. Then last week she had her hair dyed on Wednesday and by Friday she was in the hospital for an allergic reaction to PPD. It is important to note that Pauley's reaction did not come from just one product.

According to beauty expert and longtime hairstylist Louis Licari, this could happen to anyone.

"You can color your hair for 20 years and have no reaction, and then all of a sudden the next time you do your hair color you can react," said Louis.

Pauley is now recovering and even felt well enough to return to the NCIS set.
