J.K. Rowling Sends Letter From Dumbledore To Shooting Survivor Whose Family Was Murdered

J.K. Rowling just brought back Hogwarts' beloved headmaster in the most meaningful possible way.

Cassidy Stay is just 15 years old, but has already had to deal with unspeakable tragedy. On July 9, 2014, Cassidy's parents and 4 siblings were murdered in a horrific shooting incident by her ex-uncle. Cassidy was shot in the head, but made it out alive by playing dead until the shooter fled.

While speaking at a memorial for her family, Cassidy quoted Rowling's famous book series.

"In The Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore says, 'Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

When this news hit the Internet, a Facebook page was set up to have J.K. Rowling meet Cassidy, that eventually reached the author herself.

According to the Houston Chronicle, a spokesperson for Rowling confirmed that "J.K. Rowling did indeed send a personalized letter to Cassidy Stay. The contents of the letter and how it came about are private and between her and Cassidy."

Rowling reportedly "wrote several paragraphs from the point of view of Albus Dumbledore, telling Cassidy what the headmaster would have told her if he could have."

What Cassidy Stay is going through is unimaginably heartbreaking, and the fact that J.K. Rowling offered her love and support at a time like this is nothing short of amazing.
