Gifs of Mel Gibson's war hero character in the 1995 film Braveheart made William Wallace a top trending topic on Twitter. In the epic movie, Gibson plays commoner William Wallace who stages a revolt and leads Scottish warriors against the cruel English tyrant who rules Scotland with an iron fist.

asked historian educator Charlie Allan what he thought the real-life Wallace-- Braveheart is based on a real man (duh!)-- would think about the recent decision. "I think Wallace would be a very on-edge man at the moment. He'd be turning in his grave if he had one. Yes, he'd be a very restless ghost right now," Allan said.
