It was a monumental day for Scotland on Thursday when the country decided they would not declare their freedom from the U.K. Though on Twitter, only one man's opinion seemed to matter: What would William Wallace have to say about this?
Gifs of Mel Gibson's war hero character in the 1995 film Braveheart made William Wallace a top trending topic on Twitter. In the epic movie, Gibson plays commoner William Wallace who stages a revolt and leads Scottish warriors against the cruel English tyrant who rules Scotland with an iron fist.
Sky News asked historian educator Charlie Allan what he thought the real-life Wallace-- Braveheart is based on a real man (duh!)-- would think about the recent decision. "I think Wallace would be a very on-edge man at the moment. He'd be turning in his grave if he had one. Yes, he'd be a very restless ghost right now," Allan said.
Here's a few of our fave Braveheart tweets in response to Scotland staying with the U.K.
