Even an Oscar winner sometimes needs a helping hand on Thanksgiving.

nearly avoided a “Thanksgiving disaster” when her oven stopped working in the middle of dinner preparations, she revealed during Wednesday’s visit to Live! With Kelly and Michael.

“I hate my oven – I hate it!” theInto the Woods star admitted. “And you never hate your oven more than on Thanksgiving when it won’t cook the turkey.” The actress said her turkey cooked for about 11 hours, just long enough for it to be edible.

Things got so bad at the Streep household that she began looking for a Plan B to cook the side dishes. Live! co-host Michael Strahan said he “would have knocked on a neighbor’s door” for help, and that was exactly what the 65-year-old actress did.

Her neighbor just happened to be Gwyneth Paltrow.

Though the Goop founder wasn’t home, Streep personally emailed her friend to ask if she could use her kitchen, which includes “the best oven I have ever seen in my life.”
Mission accomplished. “The sides were fantastic!” Streep exclaimed.
