The director shares his excitement over the birth of his baby boy.

In between directing, writing and producing several films and television shows, Tyler Perry found time to be at the birth of his brand-new baby boy, his first child with longtime girlfriend Gelila Bekele.

Perry walked the red carpet at the Selma: The Legends Who Paved the Way gala celebration, where he stopped to talk with ET about the exciting new addition to his family.

"It was the most amazing thing. I was there, I cut the cord, I was in the room, I was helping her breath. I can't even describe it," Perry told ET. "It's really fresh. I'm here for about 18 hours then I'm right back to New York because I can't wait to see him."

ET first confirmed in September that Perry, 45, and Bekele, 28, were expecting their first child. Perry even talked about wanting to be a father last year during an appearance on Steve Harvey.

"I know I would be a great father," Perry told Harvey. "I don't want to work this hard. I don't want to have all of this and not leave it to my children."
