Harry Styles and Sir Ian McKellen: the latest bromance?

The unlikely duo recently appeared on British talker The Graham Norton Show and they couldn’t help but praise each other’s work. Harry, appearing with his One Direction bandmates (look at Zayn Malik’s hair!), took the rare opportunity to tell Gandalf himself that he once marathoned “one or two” of the Lord of the Rings films while off from school.

Afterward, the 20 year old couldn’t help but admit his true feelings to the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit star: “You’re amazing!” Ian then reciprocated the love: “So are you!”

That prompted this to happen.

The 75-year old actor also adorably attempted a dramatic reading of the lyrics to 1D’s 2013 hit “Best Song Ever,” before singing a line from 2011’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”

It definitely got the 1D seal of approval.

Ian also recalled catching the boy band at a concert in New Zealand (“Very enjoyable, thank you”) but revealed that 1D failed to show up the following day to the Hobbit set, jokingly alluding to the five-some partying in high style as the reason.

Ian isn't the only celebrity that caused Harry and the 1D boys to get starstruck. Earlier this month they met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, where Harry congratulated the expectant mom on her pregnancy. Watch ET's report below!
