Kevin Bacon Explains the Origins of That 'Footloose' Viral Video

Earlier this year, Kevin Bacon got footloose once again, 30 years after the release of his 1984 classic film.

In March, three deacdes after the release of the 1984 classic Footloose, Kevin Bacon dusted off his Sunday shoes once again -- this time for a bit that would go viral almost instantly.

The 56-year-old actor set the Internet ablaze with the recreation of his iconic dance scene from Footloose on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The original idea, Bacon admitted, was much simpler than what came to be.

"I actually pitched to Fallon the idea of doing something around Footloose," Bacon told ET. "I thought it would be something much simpler, like I would teach Fallon how to do a small step or something. They took it with their amazing machine over there and spun it into this really complicated thing."

Today, the video has more than 16 million views on YouTube.

While his dance moves remain the same, there have been changes in the Golden Globe winner's life. Currently, he's shooting the third season of Fox's The Following.

In last season's cliffhanger, Bacon's Ryan Hardy let his serial killer archenemy Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) escape death. So what happens now?

"He is in jail," said Bacon. "He is, in fact, on death row. He remains a giant presence on our show."

As for Bacon's personal life, he's been married to Kyra Sedgwick for 26 years, and he gave us advice on how to stay happily married in Hollywood.

"The secret is to never listen to television interviews from celebrities on how to stay married," Bacon joked.
