Cut Eva Mendes some slack.

The 40-year-old Hitch actress presented at the Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer event presented by the Entertainment Industry Foundation on Wednesday night, where she had a bit of trouble reading the teleprompter on-stage.

Luckily, she has a very good excuse.

"I'm sorry, go back -- you guys got it, right?" Eva said after the little hiccup. "I just had a baby. I haven't slept. I'm sorry!"

She's of course referring to her daughter with Ryan Gosling, Esmeralda Amada, whom she gave birth to in September.

"Tonight I'm here with my family -- my brother Carlos who I love so much -- he had treatment today, and we weren't sure if he was going to be feeling up to it, so I'm so happy he made it, and I love you."
