Pregnant Weather Woman Reads the Hate Mail She Gets About Her Maternity Clothes Live on Air

When Global BC News’ chief meteorologist, Kristi Gordon, was pregnant with her first child, she received countless letters criticizing her choice in maternity clothes. “They either thought it was too tight,” she explained. “But it’s hard to not having something tight over a belly that’s sticking out like this. Or they would say, I can’t believe you’re wearing horizontal stripes, you look massive.

So when she found out she was pregnant again, she asked viewers to be considerate. “It was horrible last time...I couldn’t do anything right when it came to clothing,” she said. “So please be easy on me. It’s not easy to find work clothes when your belly is out to there.”

Because the Internet is the Internet and filled with haters and trolls, a public plea naturally only resulted in more hate mail. Which Kristi proceeded to read live, on air:

“Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you,” one letter said. “Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and your rear end looks like a brick -- fill in the blank -- house. We now turn off Globle [sic].”

“Buy some decent clothes and have more respect for your unborn child. You’re not the first pregnant woman. OMG,” another letter said.

And yet another simply told her to wear looser tops because she looked unprofessional. All the letters were anonymous, of course.

For their part, Global BC, her actual employer, defended her, saying, “To all viewers, thanks for all your feedback. We’ve read them all. We support Kristi, her wardrobe choices and all women who work while pregnant.”

And she’s been retweeting support she’s gotten from other pregnant women:

“The result has been hundreds of emails, thousands of Facebook and Twitter messages, all saying how outraged they are at some of the feedback I’ve received,” Kristi wrote in a blog post. “For those of you emailing to say I look great and to keep my head up -- THANK YOU! Please also share a kind comment to the person next to you.”
