After months of anticipation, HBO has shared the first official look at the new season of True Detective. The anthology crime thriller returns with a whole new (star-studded) cast, including Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch.
Things look rough for everyone in the 60-second trailer that gives a glimpse of the complicated relationship that forms between three law officials and a career criminal following a bizarrely brutal murder.
Farrell plays Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective for City of Vinci in LA County. McAdams and Kitsch serve as the show’s other two law officials: Ani Bezzerides, a disillusioned Ventura County detective, and Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and highway patrol officer.
Vaughn is Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing it all as his wife (Kelly Reilly) struggles to make the right choice.
The season’s case is set into motion with Kitsch’s character discovers a crime scene, triggering an investigation that involves both the police and high-time criminals.
True Detective is written and created by Nic Pizzolatto. Justin Lin, who directed several of the Fast & Furious films, takes the helm for the first two episodes.
The show returns Sunday, June 21 on HBO. Check out images of Farrell, Kitsch, and McAdams below:
