In her recently released memoir, Fashion Police co-host
Giuliana Rancic made the claim that her year-long relationship with actor Jerry O'Connell ended when she allegedly discovered that he had been cheating on her
with the Spice Girls' Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell.
Appearing on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live! on Wednesday, O'Connell got evasive when asked about Rancic's claims.
"For those of you who don’t know, Giuliana Rancic is a personality on another network, on E!, and wrote a book. And we dated, then we didn’t date, and, uh, I was in the book," the 41-year-old comic actor said, shrugging off the question. "I didn't think that much of it. She's a very nice girl."
When pressed by host Andy Cohen if he felt Rancic had "sold him down the river," O'Connell kept things cordial by refusing to stir up animosity.
"I don’t want to say anything negative. She’s a very nice girl. We had a very fun time," O'Connell said, adding. "It was decades ago. I don’t believe cell phones were used then. It was like horse and buggy… It was a while ago."
In her book, Going Off Script: How I Survived a Crazy Childhood, Cancer, and Clooney's 32 On-Screen Rejections, Rancic opened up about O'Connell's reaction when she confronted him about cheating on her with "one of the lesser Spices."
"He had as much emotion as the customer-service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight," the 40-year-old TV personality recounted.
The couple had dated from 2003 to 2004. O'Connell went on to marry X-Men actress Rebecca Romijn in 2007, the same year the Fashion Police co-host tied the knot with her husband Bill Rancic.
