Kelly Ripa, Thomas Roberts to Be Honored at GLAAD Media Awards

Following a daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Entertainment
Talk Show Host, GLAAD announced that Kelly Ripa will be honored at the 2015
Media Awards in New York City.

The actress and talk show host will receive GLAAD’s
Excellence in Media Award for her contributions to the promotion of equality.
The honor has been bestowed upon the likes of Diane Sawyer, Julianne Moore, and
Tyra Banks.

"For over a decade, Kelly Ripa has greeted millions of
viewers with messages of acceptance and inclusion," said GLAAD President
& CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. "By sharing inclusive stories with her
audience and loudly voicing support for her LGBT friends and fans, Kelly is
helping to drive acceptance forward."

Ripa’s longtime friend and sometimes co-host, Anderson Cooper, will present her with the award.

Also being honored is Thomas Roberts.

The Emmy-nominated journalist will receive the Vito Russo Award -- the same distinction give to Cooper in 2013. The honor goes to out LGBT media professionals and previous recipients have included George Takei and Rosie O’Donnell.

The GLAAD Media Awards will be handed out in New York City on May 9. The organization recently held its Los Angeles ceremony, where both Kerry Washington and Roland Emmerich were celebrated for their achievements.
