Kendall Jenner on Her Earlier Modeling Days: People 'Outright Laughed At Me'

Kendall explains how her famous family actually hurt her early modeling career.

Though she's an undeniable runway pro these days, in a new interview with V magazine, Kendall Jenner claims people in the fashion world weren't always so receptive to her.

In fact, rather than her famous family giving her an in when it comes to the cutthroat fashion industry, the 19-year-old model claims it actually "closed doors" for her.

"You have no idea how many doors closed on me and how many adults were either initially reluctant to take a chance working with me or who outright laughed at me behind my back," Kendall recalls. "It was kind of hard because all I was doing was going on go-sees [when models go out to meet agencies, designers, etc.], trying my best to break into this business as a teenager."

Still, some of the most famous names in the business were obviously willing to give her a try.

"I am so grateful to Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Karl Lagerfeld, and Katie Grand, who took a chance on me that first season and gave me an opportunity," she says. "My parents taught me that work ethic is one of the most important keys in life, and I believe it."

Kendall is obviously now doing more than fine when it comes to her modeling career. Last month, she was announced as the new face of Calvin Klein Jeans.

"The first campaign that I recall was with Kate Moss and Marky Mark," she shares, though she wasn't even born yet when the now-legendary ads were released in 1992. "Probably the most iconic jeans ad ever."

But she may have some sibling rivalry going on when it comes to her younger sis, 17-year-old Kylie. "My little sister also wears Calvin, but I'm kind of claiming it as my own. OK, Kylie?" she jokes.
