On Thursday NBC aired a star-studded three-hour live telecast for Red Nose Day to raise money and awareness for a dozen children’s charities and Gwyneth Paltrow made a more than memorable entrance.
Host Seth Meyers cued up Paltrow’s dramatic introduction with one fit for an A-lister. “The rule is the biggest stars get the biggest entrances. Here she comes…,” he begins before we see a blonde woman (it’s Gwyneth!) in heels drop down from a helicopter, do an impressive roll on the rooftop, harness herself in and leap through a skylight in the Mission: Impossible-inspired bit.
But things get a little dicey when Paltrow gets stuck midway through her , hanging above the stage in a production snafu.
It doesn’t happen just once.
“Oh dear,” Meyers says. "Oh dear" is right.
“Oh god I’m stuck,” she tells Meyers as she’s left hanging above the stage. “This worked much better in rehearsal.” Stuck for the foreseeable future, Paltrow makes the most of it, “Uh… hi!”
Meyers tries to save his buddy from further embarrassment: “We can’t do anything here?” But Gwyneth keeps hanging around. “I don’t think so, I think this is it,” she says, beet red.
“I guess we’ve got to move on and just set up the next piece,” Meyers says, before throwing it “up” to Paltrow, who reads her lines like a pro. Plus we couldn’t help but giggle at this visual.
Other stars who took part in Red Nose Day included Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Matt Lauer, Helen Mirren, Ed Sheeran (who dueted with Kermit the Frog), Martin Short, David Duchovny and Jane Krakowski.
