With 41 days still left until The Originals' season three premiere, (Heck yes, we've been counting!) we're currently going through some serious Mikaelson family withdrawals.

Lucky for us, and for all of you witch and werewolf-lovers out there, ETonline has your exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of last year's most exciting events: the four-part webseries, The Originals: The Awakening.

"Today's a big day because we're shooting a big series of webisodes starring Nathaniel Buzolic, who audiences may remember as the original Kol," series creator Julie Plec explains on set in our DVD/Blu-Ray first look above.

The Awakening took fans back to the early days in New Orleans when the Mikaelson family first arrived, and acted as an information-packed companion series to The Originals' sophomore season.

The four-part saga focused on "bad boy" Kol‘s plan was to use witch Mary-Alice Claire (Keri Lynn Pratt), the ancestor of Davina Claire (Danielle Campbell), to take down his brother Klaus and his witches.

"We've got two new characters in the webseries," The Awakening's writer, Carina Adly MacKenzie, spills. "We have Mary Alice Claire, a sweet witch. She's just trying to avoid getting caught up on the war that Klaus has started."

Plec adds, "And so [Mary-Alice] gets a little bit sucked into Kol's mischievousness."

Pick up your copy of The Originals: The Complete SecondSeason on Blu-ray/DVD this Tuesday, Sept. 1 and tune into the season three premiere on Thursday, Oct. 8 on The CW.
