A source tells ET exclusively the Kardashian family "still loves Lamar" after Lamar Odom was discovered unconscious at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada and hospitalized in Las Vegas.

The 35-year-old former NBA player's ex Khloe Kardashian, along with her sister Kim, reportedly headed off to Sunrise Hospital to be by her ex's bedside.

"Lamar is not a bad person, he just has very bad demons," the source tells ET, referring to speculation that Odom had allegedly been facing substance abuse problems in recent years. "When Lamar is good, he's good. But when he's bad, there's no way of getting any worse.”

On Khloe & Lamar, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians spinoff series that ran for two seasons on E! starting in 2011, Odom opened up about his own estranged father, who he said was a heroin addict. The show’s first episode included a phone call in which Odom’s father asked him for money and tickets.

The source tells that the family, especially Kris Jenner, has "a soft spot" for Odom, and allegedly tried to get him help.

Odom and Khloe tied the knot in September 2009. Khloe filed for divorce in 2013 after months of speculation about the tumultuous state of their relationship, and submitted the final divorce documents to the courts in July.

"Khloe tried for a very long time to make it work, but it got to the point where she just couldn't handle it anymore,"
ET's source claims.

While Lamar was important to the Kardashian family, it turns out the family was just as important to Lamar.

"He didn't have a support system," the source says. "So when he came into the Kardashian family, he got this instant huge family who truly loved him and supported him."

In a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Khloe admitted that she frequently checks up on Odom to "make sure that he's OK."

However, the source tells ET that the former couple wasn’t speaking as often as reported. Because Odom often changes his phone number and uses prepaid cell phones to call Khloe

Dennis Hof, owner of The Love Ranch brothel, told ET that Odom had arrived at the establishment on Saturday in "a great mood," but that his spirits seemed to dip as the days went by.

Hof claims that, while Odom had been taking an herbal substitute for Viagra, no drugs were found on the scene, telling ET, "Police couldn’t find drugs. We couldn’t find any."
