Ricky Gervais is back and ready to take on Hollywood... again.

After three years of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the helm, the Golden Globes have tapped Gervais as the master of ceremonies for 2016. The Derek star is no stranger to the Globes stage, as he previously hosted the show in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Since then, Gervais had sworn off the gig in a 2012 post-show blog entry.

"I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It's like a parachute jump," he wrote. "You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realise you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do."

In an interview with David Letterman, Gervais issued a similar sentiment.

"I did it the first time because... it's a huge global audience for a comedian and I like writing gags," he said. "I did it a second time because I thought I could improve on the first. And I wasn't going to do it a third, but a lot of people were saying, 'He'll never be invited back,' so I did it to annoy them."

The official Golden Globes Twitter account offered a sneaky peek at Gervais' return, with the funnyman re-tweeting their post.

The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards are set for Jan. 10, 2016, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The three-hour show will air live at 8 p.m. on NBC. Nominations for this year's ceremony will be announced on Dec. 10.
