“What happens when girls are free to imagine they can be anything?”
So asks the makers of Barbie in their newest commercial, which showcases a handful of young girls living out their dream jobs and uses hidden cameras to capture unsuspecting people's reactions. Obviously, adorableness ensues.
Perhaps surprisingly, it actually succeeds at being very motivational -- a far cry from the controversy of Barbies past. (Like that computer engineer Barbie who infected computers with viruses and then needed men to fix them.)
This girl doesn’t just want to be a professor, she wants to teach neuroscience:
While this girl whips a bunch of soccer players into shape. You know how President Obama said playing like a girl means you’re a badass?
He was right.
The highlight for us? The little business girl taking a very important business call and casually mentioning her business trips have taken her to “New York, Transylvania, Pennsylvania.”
“For over 56 years, Barbie has inspired imaginations and encouraged girls on their journey to self-discovery,” Mattel explains. “From Mermaid to Movie Star, Pet Vet to Police Officer, Fashionista to Fairy Princess, Barbie continues to celebrate the belief that You Can Be Anything.”
